On the 25th of February, 2016, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce outdoored its new office of the Sekondi-Takoradi branch.
The purpose was to revive the existence of the chamber to the business community, after the recent challenges faced by the chamber in Sekondi-Takoradi.
The programme was under the Chairmanship of the President of the Chamber, Nana Dr. AppiagyeiDankawoso 1, with Nana KobinaNketsia V, Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area as the special Guest.Mr Stephen Blighten, Chief Director at the Regional Coordinating Council represented the Deputy Regional Minister.
In his speech, the Chairman, Nana Dr. AppiagyeiDankawoso I, stated that “businesses must recognize the changing trends in Sekondi-Takoradi. The Branch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce here in the Twin City has also seen the need to re-strategize on its service delivery to meet the changing needs of members. It is for this reason that we are gathered here to open this new office of the Chamber to inform the business community of the Chambers readiness to revamp its activities in the region. There is also the need for a re-awakening among businesses to position themselves in a manner that they are not be overwhelmed by the unbridled competition in the region”.
The Special Guest, Nana KobinaNketsia V, challenged the Chamber to be a war head for Ghanaian businesses to cover Africa. He asked that we should do our businesses not for ourselves but in the interest of our country. In addition, he said that, there is the need for the Chamber to re-awaken collapsing businesses by educating them to be abreast with happenings around and need for record keeping to sustain their businesses. He said we need to understand that business is paramount to development of the country and that the Chamber must fight for the decentralization of contracts for its members, it should be able to lobby in the interest of the region, the country and beyond.
Mr Stephen Blighten who represented the Western Regional Minister, expressed government’s commitment of providing an enabling environment to grow businesses. He took the opportunity to remind politicians and the media to be circumspect in their utterances especially as the political terrain gets heated up this year.
The programmewas also graced by National Executives, Regional Chairmen of the Chamber, Regional Officers from MOTI, GEPA, GIPC, GRA Customs Division, GIS, Ghana Police, the media and the general business community.
